Make sure the lock is unlocked before you do this. The power locks work like they re supposed to but even when it s unlocked it won t open. In the resting state of the lock the spring is extended. There will either be a screw in the center of the handle or a retaining clip on the back side of the handle. The turning of the handle retracts the latch by pulling on the spring and compressing it. Many times the problem is a broken door handle but that was not the case in this vid. Looking through the crack at the latch i think that s the word for it the metal part that goes inside the door when you move the handle it won t retract into the door completely.

Remove the inner door handle. An exterior door that refuses to open can be caused by several things from swollen or warped wooden door and frames or old neglected hardware. Once you have identified the problem finding and implementing a solution is fairly simple. Eventually it just stopped opening from the outside completely and someone would have to open it from the inside.

Once you have the door handle off you can now try to open the latch manually with either a large flathead screwdriver or pair of needle nose pliers. You can do this by using the phillips head screw driver to unscrew both screws on the door handle.
